Today, June 15th, is "Chiba Citizen's Day." This anniversary was established in 1984 (Showa 59) to mark Chiba Prefecture's population surpassing 5 million. The date's origin goes back to June 15, 1873 (Meiji 6), shortly after the Meiji Restoration. It commemorates the historic day when the then-existing "Kisarazu Prefecture" and "Inba Prefecture" merged to form the current "Chiba Prefecture."
